Hello Naturalistas!!!
(Regimen after my second big chop in May 2013)
MY HAIR TYPE: 4B/4C
I wanted to take some time to post my hair care regimen. THIS IS HOW I WASH/CONDITION MY HAIR WEEKLY...
It's fairly simple and doesn't require a lot of different products. I use:
~Water (shower or sink)
~A wide toothed comb (local hair supply store)
~Creme of Nature Sulfate Free Moisture and Shine Shampoo(bc my hair is very dry)
~Creame of Nature Intense Conditoning Treatment (mixed in with Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Olive Oil)
~Mizani D'Tangle Moisturizing Leave-In Milk
~Raw Shea Butter
I know that some women choose to part the hair in sections and wash it section by section, and I do the same thing lol. (Before washing I always use a comb to lightly scratch my scalp to loosen any buildup)
1. I wash my hair normally while in the shower because it's like I can kill two birds with one stone (lol)
2. I stand under the flow of water and get my hair very wet and finger de-tangle into four sections and tie a band around each section before adding any shampoo.
When finger de-tangeling or using a comb or brush to de-tangle, ALWAYS ALWAYS start from the bottom and work your way up to the roots to minimize breakage and pulling your hair out.
3. After de-tangeling I squeeze excess water from my hair and turn the shower off to conserve water :) Also use a Hair Stopper (got mine from Wal-mart) to keep dead hair from clogging your drain. I use a small amount of Shampoo (quarter sized) per section.
4. ***I don't "scrub" my scalp but simply use my finger tips to massage the product into my hair and scalp making sure to avoid making knots. Its more like a rigorous massaging of the scalp to ensure that all the buildup and dirt is gone.
5. Using Creme of Nature, my hair doesn't lather too too much bc as we have come to know sulfate bi-products are what makes "bubbles" in our hair and while we see bubbles thinking this means "clean" it actually means our hair is being stripped. Read this if you don't believe me READ THIS...(Creme of Nature Moisture and Shine Shampoo has no sulfates! YAY!) Rinse and repeat with each section of hair.
6. After rinsing the shampoo out thoroughly and de-tangeling I proceed with my -clears throat- shower lol.
7. I only shampoo twice bc I feel if I wash too much I will strip my hair of its oils. After getting outta the shower I don't dry my hair all the way but I put the Creme of Nature(with the added oils) conditioner in my hair and put on a plastic cap for at least 60 minutes. Every month (or as needed), I deep condition with hot oils to moisturize even more.
8. ***I rinse out the product and leave my hair partially wet and proceed to style with my Raw Shea Butter mixtures! Usually its Olive Oil, recently Avocado Oil and Graprseed Oil in the butter. If I run out then I use plain Shea Butter.
AND FURTHERMORE:
9. I always use a silk bonnet at night to minimize breakage on my cotton pillow cases.
10.*** Search and Destroy! See any small pieces of hair in the sink? Take some scissors and clip them off one by one! It's time consuming but worth it:)
11.***Also in between washing my hair I use my spray bottle to dampen my hair if I have to manipulate it in some way (i.e. touch it up, loosen my twist, etc.).
