'Fro Woes: First Edition

Hello feminine creatures! lol
Welcome to AFRO WOES a.k.a. 'Fro Woes. This is my second contribution to the site and I am excited. What is a " 'Fro Woe" you ask??? Well, simply put it's a hardship in dealing with natural hair.  Every so often, I will post a new question about the challenges dealing with natural, transitioned, or texturized hair. That's right! When it all comes down to it, hair is the name of the game, but not just hair, hair problems more or less.

In this first edition we explore this question asked by Alyssa Johnson of Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD :

Q:
"My hair is very dry. It seems to absorb oil overnight lol... What can I do to retain moisture through out the week?"

A:
Well, you can definitely do hot oil treatments. I recommend using all natural products. Olive oil for coarse hair, avocado oil as well, coconut oil too. There really is a difference in how much your hair absorbs oil. If all the products we use are watered down , then we are not really getting the full benefits of that product. I also like Castor oil which is great for your scalp. Deep conditioning with these oils replace any harm done to the hair by using drying shampoos and harsh products with sulfates and alcohols.

There's certain natural oils and then you can use Shea Butter as well. Look out for yellow Shea Butter made in Ghana to assure its authenticity. Most Shea Butter products are white due to the "refining" process. Lighter colored Shea Butter is not as potent as it in its raw form (deep yellowish color). When properly used Shea Butter coats and protects the hair follicle and seals in lots of moisture.

Also water is your friend. Properly wash your hair and scalp to rid it of any dirt and buildup also massage your scalp to increase circulation to the hair follicle.

Hope this helps:) Do you have any tips for Miss Alyssa??? Post below, Thanks!
