So, I know that this is a touchy subject!
A couple of years ago I began co-washing, and I noticed that there was always build up in my hair later. SOOOO, I figured it was me! Like, maybe I wasn't scrubbing hard enough and the conditioner I was using was too heavy. I started using all natural oils and as close as I could get to organic shampoos and conditioners. Then I started to see products that made co-washes and I was hooked. Then I noticed that after a good scrub/detangling session I would still have build up. UGH!
I have found some products work great for my hair grain but don't help my scalp health and vice-versa. I find that only all natural, I mean so natural you can eat it, products like essential oils and Shea Butter are the only things that really work for me. I currently use Kera Care's natural line. The moisturizing cleansing crème is what I use to wash my hair, then I use Cantu Shea Butter's Leave-In Conditioner. Before my hair dries I mix a little of coconut oil with a small dab of tea tree oil, very little peppermint oil and olive oil together and apply to my scalp. I love the way the peppermint oil smells and tingles. I make sure to massage my scalp to stimulate the hair follicles and rub the oils down my hair shaft as well. Check out my updated TWA Regimen.
What do you think? Do you co-wash??? What's your take on the whole process??? Comments welcome :)
Hey girl! Great article! It is always so hard to figure out what truly works for our hair and what is actually healthy to use. To be honest, I'm no hair expert and I've never heard of the term "co-washing" until right now. After googling it, I realized that it was just the name that I was unfamiliar with (silly me!) I have tried products like that before and they do not work for me either. One product was called Wen. I'm not sure if you've read what I do with my hair care regimen but I literally am using all products that people use in the kitchen. And I've probably spent maybe $20 (if that) in the last 4 months on my hair products. For me, it was about finding something natural, yet inexpensive that works. I'm glad you finally found something that works for you! I hope you had a wonderful week! Following your blog now! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks hun! I am ever so grateful for your comment! I have tried Wen and the cost is crazy lol! And you are so so right! I have a close friend who is a stonecold hippy and proud lol, her motto is "If you can't eat it, don't put it in your hair." Thanks for the follow by the way! Your clog is beyond awesome and I love all the detail you put into your posts too! Keep up the great work:)
ReplyDeletehey thanks for the tips ill see how they work
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback! Its great to know someone appreciates my take on things :)
DeleteThank you SO much for having the courage to post this! What you have said is absolutely true, even though die-hard Naturalistas will never admit it. I posted in my blog that co-washing is a whore-bath for your hair....it's just meant to get you by temporarily until you can cleanse for real. Washing your hair with conditioner doesn't get your hair any cleaner than washing your body with lotion. Same principle. Many people didn't agree. It's true, anyway.
